BRIEF
Created as a final project for the After Effects Beginners Course, this animation drawn inspiration from Hans Christian Andersons' The Little MatchGirl story and the idea that not everyone can afford the luxury of celebrating the winter holiday season.
STORYBOARD
The storyboard focuses on simple, deliberate transitions that guide the viewer through the scene, allowing the environment to carry the narrative.
All visual assets were hand-painted in watercolour to introduce an analogue, imperfect quality, which was then translated into motion to preserve the softness and emotional tone of the original artwork.

ANIMATION APPROACH
Movement is subtle and restrained, with slow pacing and gentle loops to evoke stillness and reflection. The animation relies on light, texture and timing rather than complex motion, reinforcing the quiet nature of the story.
OUTCOME
The final piece invites viewers to pause and reflect on the contrast between festive imagery and lived realities, using a familiar winter setting to explore themes of empathy, absence and warmth.
