The Goal
To design and animate a fluid 2D loop exploring character morphing, transition timing, and bold, retro-inspired graphics.
The Strategy & ChallengeThe piece captures a stylish girl transforming into a playful, star-shaped composition. The main challenge was managing the timing of the transition—breaking down a solid character into abstract, rotating elements, and then reconstructing them seamlessly into a new shape while maintaining a satisfying loop.
Execution & Workflow
Storyboarding & Illustration: Designed the original character, patterns, and star assets in Adobe Photoshop, planning how the individual elements would break apart and rotate.
Digital Frame-by-Frame Motion: Digitally hand-drew the transformation sequences in Adobe Animate, focusing on the fluid path of the shapes as they stretch and merge.
Compositing & Final Polish: Brought the rendered sequences into Adobe After Effects for the initial composition. To build a seamless, rhythmic loop, I utilised posterised time to give the movement a classic, stylised frame rate, and incorporated a reversed animation sequence to complete the cycle.
